Common Health & Bahavior Problems

Since Boston Terriers have short muzzles, they have a tendency to snore, and can become short of breath quite quickly. They can be at risk from infection, dryness and other eye problems because there eyes stick out slightly. Boston Terriers have also been known to have an increase riskof heart & skin tumors. Boston Terriers love the company of others, which can result in some Boston Terriers suffering from separation anxiety.

Grooming

Maintaining the Boston Terrier’s coat is pretty easy, because it is a short & sleek coat. You can use a firm bristle brush to keep the coat healthy. This can be combined with occasional dry shampoo and a wipe down of a damp cloth. A bath is okay every once in a while when necessary. You should take this opportunity to check the eyes and skin for any signs of problems or infection. Keep a check on the nails, as they should be trimmed occasionally.

History

The Boston Terrier originates from the U.S. and is believed to have originated from the French Bulldog & White English Terrier. Boston Terriers were originally bred for fighting. There was a lot of controversy when 19th-century bulldog admirers tried to discredit the boston terrier, stating that it wasn't a bulldog and it wasn't a terrier - they were then known as bulldog terriers. However, the breed ruled victorious when it was finally registered by the American Kennel Club in 1893 and named the Boston Terrier. This breed has now become one of the most popular breeds in the United States!
