Train Your Dog To "Come"" My Dog Won't Come When Called! " Training your dog to come when called (often referred to as recall) is very important. Not only can it save your dog's life, but it will also harden the trust between you and your dog. Here is how you can train your dog to come when called:
Reapeat this a couple times, but not too many times at once. It is important to be consistent, but if you continue it for too long in one period of time, your dog can get bored and not obey the command. Just do it a couple times each training session, then stop for a while. Try to do a couple training sessions each day. " But my dog doesn't come that easily! " If your dog doesn't come when you crouch and call him, gently pull him towards you using the leash that you should have already put on him. When he starts to come on his own, stop pulling the leash, and encourage him. Once he gets to you, immediately reward him with a tasty treat, and praise him. Eventually, he should get the hang of it and you will not have to pull him towards you. Make your training sessions fun! Have a friend or another family member join you to make it a game. Have your dog go from person to person as you switch off calling him. Make sure that each person praises him when he comes, and be sure that only one person calls him at a time. Do not call your dog more then once. Doing so can teach him that he can ignore you and come whenever he wants. Learn More! Train your dog other commands such as sit, down, and stay.
